Dance Your Way To A Healthier Body

Zumba Fitness is a dance fitness program that incorporates moves from different Latin cultures and dances including Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia and Reggaeton. Janice Litvin, Zumba instructor for Walnut Creek Recreation, has been teaching for WC Rec for the past 7 plus years. She has always had a passion for dancing and over the years trained with choreographers in San Francisco and Los Angeles and even studied to get her Group Exercise certification from the Aerobics & Fitness Association of America.

Janice has students that have been exercising with her weekly for the past 7 years, but she always gets excited to welcome fresh blood to her class. "I like creating a community so that people look forward to the class, not just for exercise, but because they genuinely enjoy the people," she says with a smile. She has everyone introduce themselves at the start of a new session and sometimes even organizes a potluck so people get to know each other.

For everyone who has doubts about being able to keep up with the class - have no fear! Janice breaks it down and keeps the steps easy so everyone can follow and join in. "My class is low-impact, but moderate to high intensity, with provided modifications," she explains.

One of Janice's students shared feedback about her class, "Love the instructor, there is a great atmosphere in the class, and everyone is friendly and inviting. Janice also checks in individually with all of the participants and has made an effort to get to know us all."
